In Motion: Project IS-F by FiveAxis

March 11th, 2008   Filed under:  IS-F, Body Kits, Mods, Videos

It’s coming close to four months since the FiveAxis Lexus Project IS-F show car appeared at SEMA, but this is the first time I’ve actually seen it in motion:

Just looking at photos, it was hard to really get a sense of how wide this kitted-out IS-F really is, or how low it sat. Another thing that I found impressive about the car in motion is the wheel effect, it’s practically impossible to see the rims at all, revealing only the massive brake rotors.

In the interview, FiveAxis owner Troy Sumitomo also mentions that there’s some IS-F performance parts in the works, though it seems like they missed the Detroit Auto Show deadline.

Flickr Find: The Project Lexus IS-F Revisited

The 5Axis Project IS-F for last year’s SEMA was a real eye-catcher, with many preferring the look to the production IS-F. Yet, there didn’t seem to be any real quality shots of the car, and certainly nothing like this photo from Scott Dukes:

Just stunning, the photo really shows off the bulging bodywork, and makes the matte black almost seem glossy.

Flickr Find: Custom Lexus SC 430 with Sevas Wheels

William Stern, the in-house photographer for Sevas, has posted up some shots of a custom Lexus SC 430 on Flickr:

The custom work, including some subtle fender vents and not-so-subtle LED side-step lighting, was done by Cartel Customs in Miami. There’s quite a collection of photos in William’s Flickr stream, be sure to check them out for more detail.

Update: Here’s the very same car in a video, posted to Youtube:

FiveAxis Lexus IS-F Makes an Appearance at the LA Auto Show

November 18th, 2007   Filed under:  IS-F, Body Kits, Mods

The Lexus Project IS-F by FiveAxis is moving its way up the west coast, making the trip from SEMA in Las Vegas to the LA Auto Show, where it was photographed in depth by Autoblog.

There’s also been mention of a “Stage 2″ IS-F engine mod package being developed by FiveAxis, though there’s nothing in the way of details, other than that it might be ready for the Detroit Auto Show in January.

SEMA 2007: Lexus GS 430 by GReedy

November 8th, 2007   Filed under:  Events, Body Kits, Mods, GS 430

I’ll admit it, I was sitting on posting this GReedy tuned Lexus GS 430 from SEMA in the hopes that it would disappear, but it’s time to admit defeat.

Beyond the gaudy stickers and coffee-can exhaust tips, there’s a supercharger under the hood, though no horsepower figures were released. If there’s one thing about this car that works, it’s those rims, they’re a perfect match.

Really, you have to feel bad for both GReedy and Blitz, both released superchargers for the 4.3L engine, which was just replaced by the upgraded 4.6L engine in the GS 460.

SEMA 2007: Lexus GS 430 by Blitz

November 3rd, 2007   Filed under:  Events, Body Kits, Mods, GS 430

The tuned Lexus GS 430 by Blitz, created for SEMA, is a real sleeper. Done up in a tasteful custom body kit, the real action is under the hood, where Blitz equipped the GS with a supercharger, boosting the V8 up 73hp to 363hp total.

I’m really digging the embedded supercharger control in the console, which allows for three settings: off, low & high. Also included is a perfomance monitoring system, built to display through the nav screen.

Very nicely done.

SEMA 2007: Lexus LS 460 by VIP Auto Salon

November 2nd, 2007   Filed under:  VIP, Events, Body Kits, Mods, LS 460

Here’s the Lexus LS 460 by VIP Auto Salon that’s now showing at SEMA 2007, which is basically an application of the Wald International kit, right down to the Portofino wheels.

Additionally, the Dakota Digital Air Ride System was installed, allowing for direct manipulation of the car’s height, making it easy to VIP your wheels on command.

SEMA 2007: The Lexus RX 400h by 714 Motorsports & MOMO

November 2nd, 2007   Filed under:  Events, Body Kits, RX 400h, Mods

The 714 Motorsports/MOMO Lexus RX 400h has been revealed at SEMA, and as expected, it’s a full-on cosmetic overhaul. The RX has been dropped, kitted, and outfitted with an interior makeover.

However, the mesh grille, roof rack, and slightly lowered stance make up a package that resembles an overgrown Pontiac Vibe. The wheels are fantastic but out of place, and the interior is over the top sporty.

Decide for yourself, though, here’s some photos to browse:

SEMA 2007: Project IS-F by Five Axis

November 1st, 2007   Filed under:  IS-F, Mods

You may recall the video build log of Five Axis making this heavily modified IS-F, but the videos hardly prepared us for the final product — this is one muscular looking car through and through, and perhaps best of all, it’s painted matte black! Fantastic.

Removing the massive side air vents makes a big difference to the look of the car, and overall, there’s a lot to like. Far too aggressive for my tastes, but I see it as an improvement over the production model. I’m not particularly crazy about hood vents or the rear underspoiler, though.

A Summary of the New Lexus F-Sport Performance Accessory Line

October 31st, 2007   Filed under:  Events, IS-F, Mods, IS 350, IS 250

As expected, Lexus debuted their new F-Sport Performance Accessory Line at SEMA, and there’s no shortage of products to choose from, that is, if you have an IS 250/350. Here’s a summary of the offerings:

* The most significant upgrades are for the suspension and handling, including a lowering spring set, a sway bar set to reduce body roll, shock absorbers developed by Bilstein, and a chassis brace.

* Three separate brake upgrades will be available, front/rear performance brakes for the base IS’s, and a super-duper Continuous Carbon Ceramic&tm; Brake Upgrade for the IS-F, which, according to Motor Trend, could cost $11,000. (!!!)

* A replacement clutch, which increases the torque capacity, could be the best overall upgrade.

* The 19″ F-Sport alloys have a strangely organic look to them, and I’m not all that sure if I like them. Big fan of the dark graphite finish though.

* There’s an available new exhaust system, a replacement shifter for 30% faster shift throws, and a carbon fiber engine cover.

Pictures galore of all the available parts:
