The last of Lexus’ ads to feature musicians grooving to their favorite tunes has Diana Krall contemplating Oscar Peterson’s Night Train:

Something about this ad rubs me the wrong way, it has a more contrived feel than the others. I think it’s that tiny laugh at the end…

The others, in case you missed them, featured John Legend and Diana Krall’s husband, Elvis Costello.

Enough people have been searching the site for this ad that I consider it my duty to post it up — Lexus has three commercials currently in rotation with musicians speaking on their favorite songs, this one features John Legend jazzing out to Nina Simone:

Apparently, this Nina Simone song has led to some very confused fans, who don’t recognized the specific version of “Backlash Blues”. Turns out this is a version from a rare Paris concert, and is unavailable at any of the common outlets. However, feat not, someone has posted it to a Myspace page.

There’s always backlash when a musician sells his music to be featured in a commercial, but is that really necessary with Elvis Costello’s Lexus ad?:

It’s a rather innocuous celebrity endorsement, but that doesn’t stop some people from taking offense.

A fantastic concept, famous musicians talking up their favourite music — that it’s an commercial for a car stereo seems besides the point.
