I’m unable to say for sure, but this three-minute video clip of the Lexus LF-A has a very authentic air to it:
It’s similar in look to the video shown during the LF-A unveiling at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, and could very well be direct from the source. Still, there’s enough of a rough edge to cast a shadow of doubt, so I’ve sent an email to the Youtube poster, and hope to have a definitive answer soon…that is, unless someone out there already knows?
Update: TPP Reader Jarrett has identified this video as the Japanese commercial introducing Lexus’ L-Finesse styling, released at the same time as the first LF-A concept. Thanks, Jarrett!
Seems much faster than in the Edmunds video, it’s practically a black roaring blur. Now, the only question is, when is this blasted car going to be put into production?
You can forgive the shakiness of this cameraman, it’s not every day you see a IS-F prototype sitting at a stoplight:
What stands out most for me are the wheels, they’re absolutely fantastic and easily my favourite design from Lexus yet. Still can’t say I’m feeling those massive side vents though.
But the one thing I don’t understand are blacked out emblems, if anything, it’s bound to draw more attention than if they were clearly visible.
More information has been revealed about the upcoming dedicated hybrid from Lexus — Scheduled for release in 2010 (and not 2009, as previously reported), this new vehicle will be postioned between the IS and GS models:
The car would be aimed at well-to-do individuals who are after a roomy sedan but not prepared to step up to a car the size of the GS. Mid-sized D-segment models are ideal for families and when combined with Lexus’ luxury and quality standards, could be a real winner for fans of hybrids and non-hybrids alike.
“We’ll add a specific hybrid model and leave the IS as a sports petrol and diesel. There will be more focus on interior space than on sports styling and it will have more boot space,” Settle revealed.
D-Segment, in case you’re wondering, is the European designation for the large family car, or in Lexus terms, a tiny step below the ES 350.
This makes me wonder, Lexus has gone on record in saying they would like their entire model range to be powered by hybrid technology, why not just release an ES 400h or something along those lines? Why introduce a new model?
World Car Fans has some fresh-off-the-track spy shots of the upcoming Lexus LF-A, which now sports a shop class spoiler and some honest-to-goodness rear view mirrors:
The V-10 super car has stayed quite close to its original concept, with the only noticeable differences being the aforementioned spolier and some minor bumper and light housing differences.
The production LF-A is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Check World Car Fans for more photos.
From Japan’s car magazine Car Top comes a digital rendition of a Lexus IS Coupe & Convertible:
Keep in mind this is only a photochop and has no real basis in reality, though this car has been hinted at since 2005.
Really, it’s more a question of when we’ll be seeing these cars, because the addition of two IS variants would significantly level the playing field as Lexus tries to cut in on BMW 3-series and Mercedes C-Class sales. At the very least, there’s an IS convertible sized hole in the model lineup.
